1973年マレーシア生まれ。現在、東南アジア出身の重要な現代アーティストのひとりと注目されています。
経理の仕事を経験した後、突然の父の死など精神的に落ち込んだ「自分自身を救い、癒すために」アート制作を始め、1996年マラ技術大学にて美術学士号取得。その後マレーシア国立美術館のYoung Contemporaries Awardを受賞し、2007年にはドクメンタ12に参加、2016年パリのカディスト美術財団で個展を開催するなど国際的に活躍してきました。
また2014年からはマレーシアのアーティストプラットフォーム「MAIX」に参加。様々な領域のメンバーとのコミュニティを形成し、精力的に活動しています。

日本では2008年「エモーショナル・ドローイング」(東京国立近代美術館 / 京都国立近代美術館)、2017年「サンシャワー: 東南アジアの現代美術展 1980年代から現在まで」(国立新美術館、森美術館、東京)、同年ヨコハマトリエンナーレ2017「島と星座とガラパゴス」(横浜美術館他)の出展で知られ、また、2013年から続く広島県尾道市のアーティスト・イン・レジデンス「AIR Onomichi」に継続して参加。2023年には尾道市美術館で個展を開催予定です。
作品はカディスト美術財団(フランス)、シンガポール美術館、東京国立近代美術館に所蔵されています。

シュシにとってアートは「人生とともにある」と言います。人種間の亀裂が生じている現代のマレーシア。マレーシア人の父と中国人の母を持つシュシは、自身のアイデンティティへの苦悩と探求を深めざるをえず、祖国マレーシアにおける歴史や起源、自然や産業、社会情勢の変化とアイデンティティの関係性をテーマに作品に表してきました。
ドローイング、コラージュ、インスタレーション、パフォーマンス等幅広いアプローチで作品制作する神秘的な世界観は、人間と自然、アートとの分ちがたい複雑な関係性を私達に提示します。

近年には、マレーシアのみでなく、国家という領域を超えてより古く深いものに繋がる人々の血縁や遺産、古代文明、宇宙、神話、自然や手仕事が、その土地の人々のアイデンティティとどうつながっているかという、より広い観点へと変化しています。

その土地特有の土や素材を使ってドローイングを描いてまた土に埋める、マレーシアの母の墓に生えるバラと、ベルサイユ宮殿のバラを交配させて育てるなど、自身の探求するテーマを既存のカテゴリーを飛び越えて作品に表す自由な発想は、観るものに新たな視点を与えるでしょう。

また、シュシの作品制作において、変化や過程を前提とする「現在進行形」のプロセス、人々との対話・コミュニケーション、過去のアーカイブは大きなポイントとなります。
2013年から続く「AIR Onomichi」では、元八百屋の廃屋の部材を一つ一つ調査、解体し、使用可能な材料は保存して、建築・彫刻作品に使用。他の廃材は絵画等のアートワークに変容。スタジオに籠るのではなく、様々な土地に赴き、人々と対話、アイディアを共有しコミュニケーションすることは、彼女の制作や思考において根幹となる大切なスタンスとなっているのです。
